Symmetrical AWD is a feature that provides drivers with control and confidence, primarily in snowy, icy or wet road conditions. Additionally, symmetrical AWD creates quicker and safer response rates in the event that one or more tires lose traction.
In Subaru models, the engine is mounted in-line with the vehicle’s drivetrain for seamless transfer of power to the wheels. Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive vehicles apply consistent power to all four wheels to help provide more power and traction. While Symmetrical AWD comes in handy on wet, snowy or slippery roads, it also provides assistance on dry roads, helping to avoid both oversteer and understeer. When one wheel loses traction, the AWD system will redirect power to the wheels with more traction, in order to avoid loss of control. Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive is designed to improve safety, precision and confidence in potentially dangerous driving conditions.
All current Subaru models come equipped with Symmetrical All-Wheel drive, besides the Rear-Wheel Drive BRZ.
