First Annual Wilsonville Subaru and OSC Beach Cleanup

July 25th, 2018 by

Dozens of cars with large, circular “Oregon Subaru Club” stickers plastered on them gathered at Liberty High School last Saturday morning, where conversations took place among members and close friends before the group lined up and cruised along Highway 26 to Sunset Beach. From Crosstreks to STIs, every Subaru model was present and well-represented on the nearly 2-hour cruise to the final destination on the Oregon Coast. Around 200 people (and over 100 Subarus) met at the beach to partake in the first annual Wilsonville Subaru Beach Cleanup and Oregon Subaru Club Beach Cruise. “This year’s beach cruise was also the first time we have partnered with Wilsonville Subaru to do a Beach Cleanup,” said OSC Organizational Officer Brendan Brucker. “The turnout was amazing.”

The Oregon Subaru Club was founded in 2016 and they their mission is to better the Subaru community throughout the state of Oregon and beyond, through volunteerism, supporting local business, but most of all supporting one another. OSC has weekly meet-ups and monthly cruises where members are invited to come spend time with other Subie-enthusiasts, enjoy the company of one-another and the beauty of everything Subaru.

“The beach cleanup meant a lot to the club. It shows that we lead by example and that we, in fact, support our mission, Wilsonville Subaru’s mission and the Subaru brand as a whole,” said Brucker. “We cleaned up over 80 pounds of garbage and over 30 pounds of nails which was shocking to say the least. All the club members that were in attendance were happy to be able to give back to the community by keeping Oregon green and making our environment a cleaner safer place to enjoy.”

The OSC is hosting their “Need to Feed Initiative” this fall, where members of the club raise money and build food baskets for families in need during the Thanksgiving holiday. Last year, the club was able to raise over $700 and they were able to feed over 364 people. Their goal this year: to top that number. OSC will be searching for more volunteers to help shop, build and deliver these baskets again this year. Visit the OSC website to learn more about volunteer opportunities.

Wilsonville Subaru would like to thank everyone who showed up and dedicated their Saturday afternoon to helping keep the Oregon Coast clean. Learn more about Wilsonville Subaru’s “Love Promise” events.
