The Subaru Outback Is The Lowest Cost-To-Own Midsize SUV

Vincentric awards recently named the 2021 Subaru Outback the lowest cost of ownership midsize SUV in America. This metric measures costs that include depreciation, taxes/fees, financing, fuel cost, insurance, maintenance, repairs, and tax credits. They take these estimates and measure it over a 5 year span with a 15,000 mile per year average driven. This year, the 2021 Subaru Outback came out on top as the lowest cost-to-own midsize SUV.

What is Depreciation?

This is the largest cost you will see on just about any vehicle, and definitely plays the biggest role in your cost to own a vehicle. The 2021 Outback is projected to depreciate a little over $12.5k over the next 5 years. To put that in perspective, the 2021 BMW X1 is projected to depreciate over $21.5k over the next 5 years. That’s almost $2,000 saved per year if you were to take the Outback over the X1 in depreciation costs alone.
