This Subaru Impreza Just sold For $312k

This 1998 Subaru Impreza 22B STI just sold for an impressive $312,555 at auction on Bringatrailer.com. This specific one only has 25,000 original miles, and is in great original condition. So, why did this old Subaru sell for so much? Mostly because of how loved it is by Subaru fans and its limited production. The 22B was specially built by the Japanese automaker for their 40th anniversary and their 3rd consecutive World Rally Championship title. It is essentially the street legal version of the racing series Impreza, with a number of body and performance add-ons.

Subaru only built 400 of these models, part of why it went for so much money. Each of these models were outfitted with a widebody kit, adjustable rear spoiler and 17 inch gold alloy wheels. Under the hood is a 2.2-liter turbocharged four cylinder engine and a 5 speed manual transmission. This engine produced 280 horsepower, which doesn’t seem like a ton, but was more than enough to win titles. This model also included all-wheel-drive, red STI brake calipers, a ProDrive-tuned suspension, and a locking center differential.

Being a Japanese car, this specific 22B started its life in Japan as a right hand drive vehicle, but was later imported to the US. This 22B selling for $312,550, makes it the world’s most expensive Subaru. The only other one coming close was an Impreza WRC car actually driven by Colin Mcrae, Subaru’s rally driver from 1993-1998, for $300,000 in 2017.
